What is a football pennant?

Custom football pennants are a commemorative keepsake exchanged before kick-off between the players in each team. Pennants can also be presented to the match officials.
Each pennant will usually feature the club’s crest and team name. It may also include the date of the fixture - especially for tournament finals and important international friendlies.
Giving pennants is a sign of friendship and sporting spirit between the two clubs, as well as something players can keep as a treasured memento from their football career.
